The 6th International Congress and Exhibition "Non-Ferrous Metals and Minerals-2014" was held in Krasnoyarsk on September 15-18, 2014.
The Congress traditionally included proceedings of the following conferences: "Gold of Siberia", "Metallurgy of non-ferrous and rare metals", "Aluminum of Siberia". The Conference "Aluminum of Siberia", held for the 20th time, assembled together all participants who were the fathers of the most prominent metallurgical forum of Russia.
The participants in the Congress were more 500 experts from 172 companies of 20 countries of the World (Australia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Great Britain, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Kazakhstan, Canada, Poland, France, Czech Republic, and others). Among them were the largest Russian and foreign mining and metallurgical companies, as well as the leading Russian universities, R&D and academic institutions. The Exhibition made it possible for Russian and foreign companies to present designs, technologies, materials and equipment for the aforementioned industries.
Consistent with international experience and requests from the participants the Congress presented the course of overview lectures by leading Russian and foreign scientists: Dr. Barry Sadler (Net Carbon Consulting Pty Ltd, Australia), Dr. Florian Kongoli (FLOGEN Technologies Inc, Canada), Prof. E. N. Selivanov (Institute of Metallurgy, Ural Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences), Prof. P. V. Polyakov (Siberian Federal University). Following the official opening ceremony of the event the plenary meeting was held, where the floor was given to A. G. Yekhanin (Head of Department for Subsurface Management of Central Siberian Area) and heads of two largest corporations producing aluminum and non-ferrous metals: V. Kh. Mann (Technical Director, UC RUSAL) and S. Yu. Eroshevich (Deputy Director of Transpolar affiliate of Mining and Metallurgical Company "Norilsk Nickel"), who informed about challenges of the industry. And Dr. Florian Kongoli (FLOGEN Stars Outreach”, Canada) made a speech about sustainability and the role of non-ferrous metals and minerals.
Despite the rather complicated macroeconomic situation at commodities markets, the global level of R&D researches and technical--economical indices of mining and metallurgical complex remains to be high. It would be appropriate to highlight the multidisciplinary approach of modern metallurgy based on new trends in chemistry, physics, mechanics, geology, biology, and other sciences devoted to non-linear hierarchical systems.
The Congress creates environment for achievement of valuable combination of scientists' experience and capacities of young talented experts, post graduates and students, which promotes solution of large-scale industrial problems. This year the Congress involved new sections with expanded topics related to metallurgy of heavy non-ferrous metals.
Within proceedings of the Congress sections the participants presented more than 200 reports devoted to the following topics:
One of the key events of the Congress is round-table discussions devoted to the most urgent aspects of mining and metallurgical industry. Every year there occurs mutually profitable dialogue between business community, authorities and science, the most vital problems of the industry are solved and implemented. This year, supported by the Government of Krasnoyarsk Krai, the following discussion were performed:
Within the scope of round-table discussions headed by RUS-Engineering Company the following issues were covered devoted to technologies, materials, equipment for production of high-quality items at the RUSAL aluminum smelters:
In addition to business activities of the Congress sight-seeing events were arranged for the guests. This year the participants visited the following enterprises of Krasnoyarsk Krai: Krasnoyarsk aluminum plant, Gulidov Krasnoyarsk Non-Ferrous Metals Plant, Krasnoyarsk Metallurgical Plant, Gorevsky Mining and Beneficiation Complex.
The Organizing Committee is grateful to the sponsors and partners for assistance and attention paid to the Congress: RUSAL Company; MMC Norilsk Nickel; Polyus Gold Mining Company; Department for Subsurface Management of Central Siberian Area; Gulidov Krasnoyarsk Non-Ferrous Metals Plant; Siberian Federal University; Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences; as well as to Light Metal Company, R&D Carbon, Sibtsvetmetniiproekt Company, Verder Scientific Company.
The Organizing Committee invites everybody wishing to participate in the next 7th International Congress and Exhibition "Non-Ferrous Metals and Minerals" which will be held in the mid of September, 2015.
